Black Door

“Black Door” was originally displayed in the backyard of a West Oakland home on the warm autumn evening of August 29th, 2015 for an event showcasing local artists and musicians. It was constructed in the likeness and memory of a southern homestead from materials found in near proximity. Manipulated video of construction sites were cast upon the backside of a scrim on the door of the facade. The sound of cicadas, the smell of citronella, a rickety screen door, a full moon – these all contributed to an immersive experience capable of summoning memory, feeling, and a longing for a place in the world to call one’s own.
