(fortified with compost), redwood bark, planter’s net, cypress and oak branches found on West Oakland sidewalks, clay, driftwood, electrical conduit, flower patterned blue lycra, sliding door assembly decorated with flower patterned wall paper, dining room pedestal-style table leg, foam extracted from polyester love seat discovered on downtown Oakland sidewalk, parking enforcement sign (No Parking 12AM-3AM Tues., Thurs., Sat.), 3 100 watt grow lights daisy-chained with 8’ extension cords, 2 20' extension cords , 2 50’ garden hoses, one left footed Air Jordan size 9.5US, two ratchet straps 500lb test, 6 unlabeled glass long-neck bottles, 1 salsa jar, 3 amber beer bottle (2 of which identifiably Blue Moon), one Corona glass beer bottle, one flattened NCAA regulation basketball, two 6” bar clamps, one brick originating from 2357 San Pablo, one 3 gallon bucket, a variety of native flora carefully uprooted from sidewalks within a 2 block proximity of 2357 San Pablo, donated succulents, sage, and dracaena.
Transplants was a site specific installation created for the one night exhibition ”Unearthed.” The event took place on Friday September 7th, 2018 at 2357 San Pablo Ave. in Oakland, CA. and featured a group of local visual artists, performers, and writers responding to the ideal of flourishing in the city of Oakland.
